James R. Heinbaugh, Partner

Mr. Heinbaugh is an attorney licensed in both Texas and Colorado. He oversees audit defense and conducts R&D analysis, as well as running a law practice in New Braunfels. He has worked with the R&D credit since 2014, and has experience in tax, business, corporate, and commercial law. He grew up in New Braunfels before going to the University of Texas and then the US Air Force. Jimmy earned his law degree from the University of Denver with a Certificate in Corporate and Commercial Law. Jimmy lives in Canyon Lake with his wife and kids. Outside of work, you can find him cruising his golf cart at the lake, learning new skills, or shuttling his kids to school and practice.

 

Austin Milam, Accounts Manager

Austin takes the lead on business development and client interaction. Austin has over a decade of proven sales experience and is highly responsive to both existing clients and potential clients. He has a Bachelors from the University of Texas and loves working with the Comal County Texas Exes to award scholarships and cheer the Longhorns optimistically year round. Austin is New Braunfels born and raised and his Texas roots go back back centuries to famed Texas revolutionary Benjamin Milam and the Kraft founding family of the Adelsverein in New Braunfels. Austin lives in New Braunfels with his wife Delia, and his dogs Uma, T.J., and Milo.

Ross P. Cunningham, Partner

Mr. Cunningham is an industry recognized expert with a background in accounting. He is our technical practice leader and conducts R&D analysis. Mr. Cunningham has worked with the R&D credit since 2011 and has delivered tens of millions of dollars of benefits, working with thousands of clients in almost every industry. He earned his BS in Accounting from University of Houston- Clear Lake. Ross lives in New Braunfels with his awesome dog, Hank. Ross loves the river and catching a great show at Sam’s Burger Joint, White Water, or Gruene Hall.

 

Nicole Unger,

Project Coordinator

Nicole has over 16 years of experience, including as a national coordinator in the corporate housing industry and overseeing training and administration for a world renowned private athletic facility. She is extremely thorough and has a razor-sharp attention to detail. Mrs. Unger grew up in Canyon Lake, TX, but has lived in the Pacific Northwest. She is fond of the Olympic National Park where she loved to backpack, hike and camp. She now lives in Canyon Lake with her husband and two children. She loves listening to live music, boating, and being outdoors with her family and friends.

Blackland has a dedicated team of site surveyors and engineers! Each of these engineers is also vetted and a trusted part of our team.

Blackland Balcones focuses on delivering high quality consulting to clients. We have developed our shop to deliver honest & straight-forward assessments, timely & accurate work, and bring value to our clients. We strive to become the main regional provider of R&D tax credit consulting services for Comal County, Bexar County, Guadalupe County, Hays County, & surrounding Texas areas, and also providing top quality work in various aspects of financial consulting. We are focused on cultivating lasting relationships with CPAs, clients, and industry organizations in the central Texas area and providing a positive impact to the local community.

We're personally committed to the community. Jimmy is a New Braunfels Rotarian, and Ross also volunteers with the Rotary Club annually; Jimmy serves on the board of directors as Treasurer for the Crisis Center of Comal County. Blackland Tax has sponsored events for and donated to local non-profits, including New Braunfels Jaycees, New Braunfels Angels, Comal County Sheriff Office's Deputy Eddy Luna’s recovery fund and other causes close to our families, friends, and clients.

Texas’ Blackland Prairie meets the Balcones Escarpment along a line running through Bexar, Comal, & Hays county, and northward past Waco headed to Ft. Worth.
